Crazy Good Slow Cooker Carne Asada

  • Slow Cooker


  • 2-3 lbs flank steak
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp salt more or less to taste
  • 1 tsp ground white pepper
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Mexican oregano
  • ¼ tsp ground clove
  • ¼ cup freshly squeezed orange juice about 1 orange
  • ¼ cup freshly squeezed lime juice about 1 lime
  • ¼ cup freshly squeezed lemon juice about 1 lemon
  • cup soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • flour or corn tortillas for serving

Optional toppings for tacos:

  • pico de gallo
  • cilantro
  • avocado
  • sour cream
  • cotija or feta cheese
  • limes
  • onions


  • In a small bowl, whisk together all the spices. Add the olive oil and stir to combine.
  • Rub half the spice mixture on one side of the flank steak, flip it over, and rub remaining half on the other side.
  • Whisk together fruit juices, soy sauce, and worcestershire sauce.
  • Place the seasoned flank steak in the bottom of your slow cooker. Pour the liquid mixture over top of the steak.
  • Cover and cook on LOW for 6-8 hours or HIGH for 4-6 hours.
  • Once cooked, remove steak from crockpot and allow to sit for 5-10 minutes before cutting.
  • Using a serrated knife, thinly slice the steak against the grain.
  • Gently place steak back in crockpot and mix with juices.
  • Serve on top of tortillas with topppings of choice.


Prefer the flavor of the grill? Prepare the meat the same way as explained, but instead of covering the meat in the crockpot with the juice mixture, put it in a large zip-lock bag and marinate the steak in the fridge for at least 2 hours prior to grilling. Allow meat to come to room temperature before grilling for maximum flavor.
